Social Justice Philosophy
If you ask someone what the definition of Social Justice is, they could answer something different from what the next person you are about to ask is going to say. Social Justice has many different definitions and perspectives but to me Social Justice is equal rights and fairness. The case for this is because, well first of all, the reason for people with different definitions of Social Justice is because many of us have different knowledge. We went to different schools in which we got taught differently. Equal rights to everyone despite their citizens status, race, ethnicity, religion, and culture. Fairness despite their economic status, education, appearance, and Issues. A good example is the unfairness that many undocumented immigrants face, they are sometimes told that they should go back to their country because they are only making this country worst. That hurts and it affects me in a way because I’m also an undocumented Immigrant, those rude comments make me feel like a stranger in this country. Now a days fairness and equal rights do not exist no more, no one is receiving them. That affects me because that unfairness and lack of rights sometimes bring me down. What all of this means to me is an important step in life. Without Social Justice, this world would be worse than it is.
There are many obstacles that we face while struggling to achieve Social Justice. Those obstacles are inequality, violence, mistreatment, racism and abuse. It can be the abuse that many of us are receiving by police officers all around the world. Michael Brown for example, Brown was an African-American that was choked to death by a New York police officer just because he separated a fight between two people and also because he was selling non-drug cigarettes outside of a shop. See what I mean? How and why did they committed such a violent act? No one is safe. There’s also the teenager Trayvon Martin that was shot to death by George Zimmerman, police officers abusing of defenseless elderly and patrol officers killing innocent immigrants that try to cross the border. Why were they not granted a chance in this life? Why must they be killed for something minimum? … We are all human beings that deserve the same help and justice. African American, White, Hispanic, we are all the same. One famous march is the one lead by Dr. King. Thousands of his followers and him decided to march all the way to the Lincoln Memorial. They marched to gain equal rights and thanks to him, blacks were granted equal rights and justice. Despite this great success, a lot of things changed now in times. Now, plenty of marches have been doe and no results have been granted to those who march. Many march against domestic violence, abuse, and Immigration laws. I believe that we haven’t achieved Social Justice because there’s too many stereotypes and too many people that believe others should be judged by their skin color and actions. With a lot of people being stereotypes, it makes things worse because they are just waiting for someone to commit a mistake or they just want everyone to be perfect. Many of us get judged by our skin color for pointless reasons to be honest. It doesn’t matter what color we are, we are all human beings created by God. One main reason why people judge by actions is because to them, once an action is committed, it instantly tells what kind of person someone is. For example, many people are negative toward African Americans and Mexicans due to the crimes that a lot of them commit. A crime does not define a person and it definitely doesn’t mean that every Mexican and African American is the same.
My vision for struggle is avoiding obstacles that come my way. My vision is to never put your head down. Strategies and techniques that can help us achieve Social Justice are being a good citizen and following the laws that are necessary to follow in order to achieve rights. Not all the laws represent Social Justice which means that we do not have to follow every single law in the US, we are all human beings and we make mistakes by not following every single law. Also, being a good student that studies hard to make a change can help you receive Social Justice. One main thing to do is to take action, to take action by protesting and participating in many events that lead to Social Justice. You can also take action by forming part of groups and organizations that are in search for rights and Social Justice. During my lifetime, Social Justice will advance with me by being next to me, by that I mean that as I go on, I will face hard battles, hard battles that are going to try to put me down and take away my rights. They are going to try but one thing's for sure, I am NOT going to give up and I am not going to give up because my rights and Social Justice are going to be right next to me, making me strong and determined.
